Since 2015, I’ve had the privilege of caring for cats throughout the East Bay. But my story with cats started long before Uncle Jay Cat Sits—with my first cat, Mama.

She was the one who taught me just how special cats are. Loving her made me curious about how cats communicate, what makes them feel safe, and why no two cats are ever quite alike. Some want to be right beside you. Others need time and space before they decide you’re trustworthy. Learning to understand those differences is a big part of why I love this work.

Eventually, that love became Uncle Jay Cat Sits.

When I started my business, I knew I wanted it to feel personal. I didn’t want to build another large pet-sitting service where you might not know who will be coming into your home from one visit to the next. I wanted my clients to know exactly who was caring for their cats—and for their cats to know me, too.

When you hire Uncle Jay, you work directly with me. I get to know your cat’s routine, their favorite hiding spots, the way they like to play, and all those little quirks that make them who they are. I also pay attention when something seems a little different. With cats, those small changes can matter.

Consistency is especially important to me. Trust with a cat isn’t something you can rush. Sometimes it happens on the first visit. Sometimes it takes weeks of sitting quietly nearby, offering a hand to sniff, and letting them decide when they’re ready. I’m happy to meet them wherever they are.

I’m a Fear Free Certified Professional and certified in Pet CPR and First Aid. Over the years, I’ve cared for playful kittens, independent adults, seniors, cats with medical needs, and cats nearing the end of their lives. Whatever stage of life they’re in, my approach is the same: patience, kindness, respect, and care that follows their lead.

After more than a decade of doing this work, I know cat sitting is about much more than putting down food and scooping a litter box. It’s about keeping life familiar while you’re away. It’s noticing whether breakfast was eaten, whether the litter box looks normal, or whether your usually social cat has decided to spend the morning under the bed. And sometimes it’s simply sitting together so they know they’re not alone.

That’s what I want for every cat in my care—to feel safe, comfortable, and loved in the place they know best: home.

More than eleven years later, that’s still what Uncle Jay Cat Sits is about. You know who is caring for your cat, I get to know the little individual waiting behind your front door, and your cat gets the consistency of a familiar face each time you’re away.
